Samsung has decided to terminate further support for the seven-year-old Gear S3 smartwatch. In a statement, the company said Gear S3 and all its variants will no longer support new smartphones that launched in 2024 or after that. Users can not connect their Gear S3 Classic or Gear S3 Frontier with the new Galaxy S24 series phones. It applies to all new phones like Galaxy S24, Galaxy A55, Fold 6, Flip 6, and S24 FE models, which launched this year. Users across the world are now receiving new notices on their phones.
In a statement, Samsung says, “According to the service operation policy, Gear S3 does not support interworking with its mobiles that will be released after 2024. This decision has been made based on the judgment that the existing service quality cannot be maintained through app update alone.”
If you have a Gear S3 and want to purchase a new phone in 2024, then you should consider it. There are still many active Gear S3 users who find value for money in this product. It was launched in 2018 in two variants – Classic & Frontier, and it runs on Tizen OS software. The company has long ago stopped sending any new firmware for the watch followed by Gear S2, and now it has been discontinued from further support.
