The moon photo taken with Galaxy S22 Ultra & S23 Ultra is one of the most controversial topics in the last two years. Some say it is fake moon images created with AI technology, and some say Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 200MP 100x zoom sensor can capture such amazing pictures. The question is which one is true? Are moon shots on Galaxy S22 Ultra or S23 Ultra fake?
The answer is it does not take fake images. Yes, Samsung takes the help of AI technology to recognize objects and make them clear and sharper. With the newly developed Scene Optimizer function, it produces optimal results. Here is what Samsung says about the moon photography.
To take clear pictures of the moon, in a high magnification environment of 25x or more, Super Resolution technology is used to create a high-resolution image from a low-resolution image by combining 10 or more images, enhancing picture quality caused by digital zoom, removing noise, and improving clarity and detail.
In other words, only results using high-magnification Super Resolution technology are provided when optimal shooting for each scene is turned off.
If the moon is recognized with optimal shooting for each scene turned on, the result using high-magnification Super Resolution technology + a deep learning-based AI detail improvement engine creates a bright and clear moon photo.
